Programs
| Each
day there are opportunities for creativity in a completely unstructured
area where children can enjoy a variety of materials according to their
own imagination. We also have opportunities to create in a more structured area where we supply materials and ideas according to the themes we are working on. Throughout the year we work on themes such as, The Five Senses, Transportation, Occupations, Musical Instruments, Reptiles, Insects, Nutrition, Ocean, Farms, Safety, Seasons & Holidays. |
|
| Science is another important part of our program here at Sonshine Street and we regularly enjoy “Science Weeks” when we experiment with messy, bubbly and sometimes loud ingredients!! We learn about insects and reptiles and try to have “hands-on” experiences. We also have included the popular “Fun Family Phonics” program in our 4-year-old classes in order to help the children learn the basics essential for successful reading and to prepare for Kindergarten. |

| Field
Trips Field trips are an important part of our curriculum. We try to go to places that are fun, interesting and if possible, related to the theme we are working on. We usually meet at the field trip location. Parents are responsible for driving their own child or for making their own transportation arrangements. |

| Special
Events We have party days throughout the year for Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, Easter, etc. These are mainly times for extra special food at snack times. Mother’s Day is always a big event for us at Sonshine Street. The children spend a lot of time making something very special for Mom and then we have a Tea Party. The children usually put on a fashion show and we invite people selling different kinds of merchandise to join us for a little Trade Fair. Our Christmas Play is a much loved event and we look forward to seeing our little angels, shepherds and often representatives of various countries up on the stage. The children even use the microphone to say a little line and all of them are “Stars” for an evening. Our Summer Fair is at the end of the school year and is another occasion for the whole family to participate. We paint faces, enjoy the Bouncy Castle, make slime with Mad Scientists, climb on the Fire Truck, ride a pony eat hot-dogs & generally have a great time together. Finally we have Graduation. This is for all our children moving on to Kindergarten & we invite parents, grandparents etc. to come and watch us perform some of the songs and stories we have learned throughout the year. This is a time of sadness as we say Goodbye but also of joy as we see these confident little people move on in the world!! |
